Managing Routes

Introduction

After crafting your route, it's crucial to manage it effectively to keep production workflows seamless. This article will guide you on making a route live, versioning for edits, renaming, duplicating to new shops, and archiving.

Prerequisites

  • At least one route is built out in Building Swell.
  • Detailed understanding of your shop's production workflows.

Step-by-Step Instructions

Live Routes

  • Navigate to the top right corner.
  • Click on "Go Live".
  • Observe the status badge transition from "Draft" to "Live", indicating that the route is now available for the team.

Creating a New Version

  • If you attempt to add stages or steps to a live route, you'll notice these options are inactive.
  • To edit, choose the "Version" function.
  • Opt for "Version", and you'll see the route shift to "2" and revert to "Draft".
  • You can now introduce new stages or steps as required.

Editing a Route

  • Access the three-dot menu at the top right.
  • Choose "Edit".
  • Here, you can revise the route's name. After editing, you can opt to set the route back to "Live" if you wish.

Duplicating a Route

  • Access the three-dot menu at the top right.
  • Pick "Duplicate".
  • You can rename the route and assign it to a different shop.
  • Confirm with "Save". Your route is now replicated to the designated location.

Archiving a Route

  • At the top right, access the three-dot menu.
  • Choose "Archive" and confirm your choice.
  • The route will be removed from the active view, confirming its archiving.

Additional Tips

  • Versioning: Always utilize the versioning system when you need to make adjustments to a live route. This helps in maintaining a record of the changes over time, and it ensures you're not disrupting the current live route that your team is using.
  • Duplicate with Care: When duplicating routes, especially to new shops, ensure that the steps and stages are still relevant to the shop you're transferring the route to. This prevents any workflow disruptions.
  • Renaming Routes: When renaming routes, it's a good idea to follow a consistent naming convention that the entire team understands. This ensures that everyone can easily find and use the correct routes.

Conclusion

Managing routes efficiently is integral to an organized and smooth production process. Whether you're introducing new stages, renaming for clarity, or archiving outdated routes, each step ensures you keep your workflows optimized.
